Rouse Hill Visitor Information Centre

Mungerie House

Historic Mungerie House, a homestead established in the 1870's, is now home to the Rouse Hill Visitor Information Centre. The centre provides information services not only to visitors to the Hills, Hawkesbury and Hornsby areas but also to local residents who want to learn more about what is in their own back yard. The centre carries information on local accommodation, tourist attractions, dinning, conference venues as well as shopping, pubs/clubs, markets, farm gate trails, artists and artisans trails the list goes on! The centre is staffed by Tourism Volunteers who can assist our local residents in finding that perfect venue for a special occasion whether it be for a birthday party, wedding reception or family reunion, they can also help you plan an itinerary to discover all of the wonderful things the Hills Hawkesbury Riverlands region has to offer. The centre holds additional information on selected regional areas throughout NSW and a selection of free maps for those planning to travel outside of our region.

As the centre is based in Mungerie House there is an opportunity to come and learn about the history of the homestead, the land surrounding it and it's previous owners. Group tours are available. In the interpretation room you will find a 17 minute short film based on the history of the Battle of Vinegar Hill, a documentary that takes you through the whole story from it's origins in Ireland to the end of the battle which finished in Rouse Hill.

There is a permanent exhibition in the Pioneer room which houses the wooden pioneer family. This family made up of mum, dad, daughter, son and his dog were each carved from solid tree trunks with a chainsaw by Kevin Gilders, a champion chainsaw master carver, in 2001. These carvings are certainly fantastic works of art. In addition, the exhibition room is available for hire for any schools or groups that wish to display their works. Cost is $30.00 per day, Monday to Friday or $100.00 per day Saturday to Sunday.

If you're looking for a quite meeting place, with comfy chairs and a lot of desk space why not hire out the meeting room at Mungerie House? The meeting room can accommodate up to eight people and is available for hire for anyone such as offsite corporate meetings, book clubs or even students. It is available by the hour at $10.00 per hour or $50.00 for a full day. The hours the room is available are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday or 09:30am-4:00pm Saturday to Sunday.
