Playground wins for The New Rouse Hill

Playground wins for The New Rouse

Hill

Sydney, 15 November 2010 – The New Rouse Hill’s innovative and larger than life Mungerie Playground has won the Commercial Landscaping category of the annual Hills Building and Design Awards for 2010.

The recently completed ‘all abilities’ playground caters to children of all ages and abilities and includes exciting, larger than life reptile sculptures as well as a range of dynamic play equipment.  Not only is the playground an exciting play experience for children of all ages and abilities, it also boasts excellence in design innovation and sustainable features.

The playground was assessed on its design and aesthetics, as well as materials and plant selection, the playground’s fit within the existing landscape and overall costs involved with the project.

Ranisha Clarke, Project Manager for The New Rouse Hill said the win was a highlight for the local community, which demonstrates the high calibre of the teams involved in designing and building the playground.

“This is an exciting award for The New Rouse Hill as it showcases our commitment to providing a unique facility that caters to children of varying ages and abilities, their families and the wider community, and delivering facilities early in the project’s life, before the majority of homes in the community are completed.”

The playground is located within the historic Mungerie Precinct at The New Rouse Hill and was designed with a number of key considerations in mind, including: providing an area for children that encourages inclusive play for children of all ages and abilities through a variety of play equipment; designing a safe and user-friendly play area for both children and their families to enjoy together; building a sustainable facility which can be easily maintained and uses recycled water and plant materials; and last but not least, designing an intriguing and exciting play facility that appeals to children and their families, visitors to The New Rouse Hill and is aesthetically integrated into its surroundings.

The annual Hills Building and Design Awards celebrate the diversity in building and design across The Hills Shire region.

“The New Rouse Hill is very proud to accept this award on behalf of the local community and the teams involved in bringing the playground to life.” Ms Clarke said.

Developed by Lend Lease and The GPT Group in partnership with Landcom and the NSW Land and Property Management Authority, The New Rouse Hill is a vibrant new community that will become home to approximately 4,500 residents.  The new playground has already provided many hours of entertainment and laughter to local children, their families and the wider community, and forms a key part of the interpretative story of the historic precinct.
